Eighteen students from across Our Lady of Pity, St Bernard’s, St Peter & Paul’s, St Augustine’s, St Joseph’s, St John Plessington, St Alban’s, and St Mary’s Catholic College gathered to passionately discuss sustainability issues close to their hearts. These young change-makers came together with a unified message: we are all stewards of creation, and we must heed the call of Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si.

The event featured a talk by Sean Dick, Senior Conservation Education Manager at Chester Zoo, who emphasised the importance of young people having a voice at COP29 and the power they hold to shape a sustainable future.

Family members watched on proudly as the students delivered impactful presentations, sharing their ideas on how to create a more sustainable world. These young leaders exemplified the hope and determination needed for lasting change.

Emily Reid, Creativity and Sustainability Lead at HFCMAT, shared her thoughts on the event:
“We are so proud of our students at HFCMAT. Youth voices are the seeds of a sustainable future. When young people speak up, they inspire action and change for generations to come. Today, they brought hope and as a trust, we will continue to provide a platform for them to have their voices heard.”

HFCMAT is committed to empowering students to act as agents of change, ensuring their voices are at the forefront of creating a more sustainable and just world.
